SACRAMENTS

Sacrament Of Anointing

Home visitation and hospital visits for the Sacraments may be arranged with notification of the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish Office. Please call (262) 966-2191 or e-mail Mary Jo for more information.

Sacrament of Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism celebrates the very essence of our Christian Faith: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It initiates one into the Body of Christ, the parish faith community. Since the parents’ decision to bring their children into the church entails the important responsibility of raising their children in the faith, our parish has the following policy in place to insure that parents have an understanding of the commitment they are undertaking.

The Catholic parents of children to be baptized must be registered and practicing members of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish. They should worship with the community on a regular basis. They should also exercise responsible stewardship of their time, talent and treasure in witness to Jesus Christ and service to our community.

The parents are required to attend a formation session if this is the couple’s first child or if they have not attended sessions in the past three years. The session will be concerned with the rite itself and the role of the family in nurturing the Catholic faith and Catholic teachings on Baptism. Parents are expected to attend a session before the birth of their child.

Baptisms are normally celebrated at the North Lake church (or Monches church) on the first Sunday of the month at 12:00 p.m. (noon).  Please call the Parish Office at (262) 966-2191 to register.

Sacrament of Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated during the Easter Season for our junior year high school students attending religious education. Sophomores are expected to participate in our religious education program as a prerequisite to attending the Confirmation program during their junior year.

The Confirmation program is held on Wednesday, approximately twice a month at the Tyme Out Center in Stone Bank, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The "Confirming Faith" program written by Sr. Kieran Sawyer, S.S.N.D., is used. The Confirming Faith program is based on a theology of initiation that sees "delayed confirmation" as a necessary concomitant of infant baptism. The heart of the program is a statement from the Rite of Baptism for Children:

To fulfill the true meaning of the Sacrament (baptism), children must later be formed in the faith in which they have been baptized...Christian formation, which is their due, seeks to lead them gradually to learn God’s plan in Christ, so that they may ultimately accept for themselves the faith in which they have been baptized.

A retreat will be held early in the school year, so the candidates can get to know each other as they travel the year together and culminate with Confirmation.

Adult Confirmation

RCIA. Any adult who has never been confirmed and would like to begin preparation for the Sacrament to complete his/her initiation, please contact the parish office for more information. Adults are confirmed in the spring at the Easter Vigil.

First Eucharist

First Eucharist is celebrated in the second grade. The student must have attended religious education classes for one year prior to attending the second grade class. If the child was not baptized at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, North Lake or Monches, a copy of their Baptismal Certificate must be given to the Religious Education office prior to First Eucharist. First Eucharist is celebrated in May.

Because parents are the primary faith formers of their children, the immediate preparation is done in the family. At home parents and children will complete the Gold book, " We Celebrate the Eucharist ." During class time the children will work on the "This is Our Faith" textbook. Both books emphasize the importance of the Eucharist in all of life. Parents and children will also create a banner to display at Church during First Communion. Materials will be supplied prior to Banner Night.

First Reconciliation (Penance)

First Reconciliation is celebrated in the second grade. Starting in 2000-2001, second grade students will celebrate reconciliation prior to First Communion. The student must have attended religious education classes for one year prior to attending class. First Reconciliation is celebrated in February or March.

The program emphasizes the Church’s rich tradition of moral example and teaching, which provides the basis for their own moral development. Focus is on the Commandments and the Beatitudes. Students use the "This is Our Faith" textbook to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and at home parents and children complete the Blue Book, " We Celebrate Reconciliation ."

For Adults

Individual Reconciliation ( Confession ) is available. Please consult the parish bulletin for times and days. Individual reconciliation is also available by appointment. Please contact the Pastor to make an appointment.

Our parish has Communal Celebrations of the Sacrament of Penance at seasonally prearranged times. However, there is no general absolution given. Individual, private confession only. Watch the parish bulletin for the times, dates and place.

Marriage

The Sacrament of Marriage is an important milestone in the lives of most people. Couples are encouraged to register for marriage as soon as possible. Please contact the Parish Priest for available dates before scheduling a banquet hall. At least one person must be a registered member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish. Special consideration will be given to those whose parents are members.

If you have any questions, please contact the parish office (262) 966-2191
